What is Thule Urban Glide 2?

Thule Urban Glide 2 is an upgraded version of one of the bestselling jogging strollers available on the market. Thule Urban Glide was already a favourite model of a jogger of many parents who enjoy spending time actively with their babies. The upgraded stroller is somewhat more expensive than its predecessor is, yet, it has many great features which were not available in the original stroller.

As you know, Thule Urban Glide 2 is a jogging stroller, yet, it can be also called a full size all-terrain stroller since this model weighing 25.3 lbs can be converted not only into a travel system, but also in a pram as it is compatible with a bassinet. The maximum weight limit for this model is 75 lbs.

Of course, Thule Urban Glide 2 is not a lightweight stroller, however, its weight is absolutely typical for regular everyday models which will not allow you to go jogging with your baby or enjoy off-road strolls.

Pay your attention to the fact Thule Urban Glide 2 can be used as a jogger only with children who can sit on their own confidently and exclusively with the original seat. Neither a pram nor a travel system can’t be used for this purpose.

Folding mechanism and dimensions

If you compare Thule Urban Glide 2 to some other top jogging models, you will see the fold of this model is a way more compact with its dimensions of 22.8″ x 34.3″ x 13.4″.

All you need to do to fold this stroller is lifting the leg rest and lift the handle located underneath. This will collapse the jogger and fix the fold with an automatic lock. The mechanism is so simply that you will be able to use it completely single-handedly.

Of course, the dimensions of the fold are still great since any jogger of a high quality is pretty bulky. You can easily detach the wheels of Thule Urban Glide 2 to decrease the dimensions of the fold. Each of the rear wheels is equipped into a special button that has to be pressed in order to take them off.

The components of Thule Urban Glide 2

Let’s look at the most crucial parts of Thule Urban Glide 2. I will recommend you to pay particular attention to the elements of this stroller maintaining safety of the ride which is particularly important for a stroller which will be used for jogging or hiking over bumpy terrains. You will see in this part of my review, that the manufacturer has added some new features to this model in order to increase the security of your child.

Safety features

This time, I would like to list all the safety features of the stroller in one part of my review, so as you will be able to see the level of the security of your baby during the ride in Thule Urban Glide 2 on your own.

Five-point harness

Undeniably, a five-point harness has already become a standard feature of modern strollers of all possible types. The one used in Thule Urban Glide 2 is featured by particular softness of its rich padding which is quite important especially during hot summer days when the child will be wearing a minimum amount of clothes. The padding of the harness of this stroller will not rub the delicate skin of your baby.

Brakes

I am very glad to inform you about the fact Thule Urban Glide 2 has two types of brakes.

Handbrake

Personally, I am more than happy the manufacturer has added a handbrake to the upgraded version of Thule Urban Glide. In fact, this safety feature is very much needed in all the jogging strollers, yet, you will hardly find such a model on the market even among the products of the most expensive category. The previous version of Thule Urban Glide 2 lacked this feature itself.

A handbrake is extremely useful for jogging on steeper or bumpy terrains. With this handbrake, you will be able to get a better control over the stroller since a handbrake is located within easy reach.

Pay your attention the handbrake available in Thule Urban Glide 2 is not a traditional bicycle brake which needs squeezing for activation. This one should be twisted in order to make it work.

Parking brake

Certainly, there is also a parking brake in Thule Urban Glide 2 which has a quite large parking brake located between the rear wheels. You can easily lift or press this pedal, albeit some parents find it somewhat uncomfortable to use this brake while wearing flip-flops or high-heeled shoes. Although it might be a problem for some people, you shouldn’t forget about the fact this stroller was designed for jogging which requires using sport shoes.

Wrist strap

A wrist strap is an additional safety element you can find in Thule Urban Glide 2 which will allow you to have a better control over the stroller while jogging. Still, you should be very careful as in the case when you fall down with the wrist strap in your hand, you are risking to make the stroller fall as well.

Reflective elements

Unlike many other strollers, Thule Urban Glide 2 has a variety of elements with reflective parts. For instance, you will find such elements on the canopy as well as on each of the stroller’s tires.

This is especially important for parents who enjoy strollers in the evening or early morning.

Seating options

If you have checked some other jogging strollers, you might have come across the models which provide parents with a possibility of converting these joggers into a travel system. Needless to say, it is an amazing feature which allows you to make do with just a single stroller not purchasing additional ones for your child right from his or her birth. Yet, the manufacturer of Thule Urban Glide 2 has added a possibility of using this jogger with a bassinet as well. Thus, there are three seating options available for this stroller.

The major seat

The weight capacity of the major seat of Thule Urban Glide 2 is 75 lbs which makes it suitable for transporting even the children in the pre-school age. Yet, some parents find the seat somewhat too narrow for children starting from the age of three years.

I like the fact the backrest in this model is featured by an infinite recline, which means you can set it to any angle you prefer rather than choosing from a several pre-set options. The mechanism is based on a strap and a buckle which means the seat can be reclined with a single hand, yet, you will need both hands for getting it into its initial position. Even though the maximum recline of this stroller is pretty flat, it is not yet completely flat which makes the major seat of Thule Urban Glide 2 not suitable for transporting newborn babies.

Bassinet

As I have already mentioned, Thule Urban Glide 2 is a unique jogging stroller which can be converted into a pram by adding a special Thule bassinet. Of course, such a bassinet is the best possible option for transporting newborn babies who still haven’t developed appropriate neck support. The Thule bassinet is equipped into an apron and a generous canopy for protecting your baby.

Note that the bassinet can be installed on the frame of the stroller after removing its seat. The installation of the bassinet might take some time, however, it is not a big deal since you will have to install the bassinet only once and then remove it only when your baby is ready to switch to the major seat.

Actually, if you have a Thule bassinet, you will not need to use the stroller as a travel system as the bassinet can be folded with the stroller’s frame without being detached and the fold of the stroller with the bassinet is very flat. Thus, having the stroller with the bassinet in your car doesn’t require any extra space.

Bear in mind that bassinet is not suitable for jogging with your baby. Actually, your child should be at least six months old in order to seat safely in the stroller while you will be jogging, albeit, many doctors claim it is even better to wait until your child is eight months old to start your sport activities.

Thule Urban Glide 2 travel system

You can also use Thule Urban Glide 2 as a travel system after purchasing an adapter compatible with the model of the infant car seat you are using. Thule Urban Glide 2 can be used with a variety of brands of infant car seats including Maxi Cosi.

Note that even if you decide to use a travel system instead of a pram with a bassinet, you still should refrain from jogging with your newborn child. Only the initial configuration of Thule Urban Glide 2 with its major seat is suitable for jogging or off-road strolls. Of course, the age requirement is the same – you can use it only with babies who are at least six months old.

Wheels and suspension

Thule Urban Glide 2 is using a three-wheeled design which has been proved to be particularly efficient for jogging stroller. There is one 12” front wheel in this stroller  and two 16” rear wheels. The wheels of this stroller have air-inflated tires which, although means you will have to maintain them regularly, is actually a great feature since only such wheels can absorb the shocks coming from the terrain in an efficient way.

The front wheel of the stroller is equipped into a swivelling mechanism which is useful for manoeuvring the stroller over flat terrain. Once you switch to jogging or get to some rough terrain, you can simply lock the swivelling mechanism increasing the stability of the stroller.

Thule Urban Glide 2 is also featured with four-wheel suspension which is necessary for a smooth ride of your baby especially over bumpy terrains.

Certainly, you will find many strollers with similar parameters when it comes to the wheels and suspension of Thule Urban Glide 2, however, you will see that the real quality of these elements differs a lot. In the case of Thule Urban Glide 2, literally all the parents are absolutely happy about the smoothness of the ride this stroller can provide.

Canopy

Thule Urban Glide 2 is featured by a very large canopy which will cover the majority of the body of your child and protect him or her against the sun rays with its sun ray filters of the fabric.

I like the peek-a-boo window of this stroller a lot since it has a magnetic closure which will create not a single sound while you will be checking your baby. Once you unfold the canopy completely, you will find side windows made of mesh which will provide your child with extra flows of fresh air.

Handlebar

I was more than happy to find out that Thule Urban Glide 2 has an adjustable handlebar allowing parents to set the height between 35.5 inches to 44 inches above the ground. If you are of a medium height, it might be not an issue of concern for you, however, particularly short and tall parents can experience problems while using a stroller with a poorly adjusted height of a handlebar.

Storage options

Thule Urban Glide 2 is featured by a sufficient amount of storage space which is undeniably crucial for trips to the natural sights.

Under the seat, you will find a quite large basket which will protect your possessions against bad weather or falling out with its zippered cover. The back of the basket has an additional pocket which can be used for accessing the items held in the basket once the seat is fully reclined.

For smaller possessions you can use a handy mesh pocket located on the backrest. Furthermore, you will find two mesh pouches which are situated on the inner sides of the seat. Your baby can use them for keeping his or her toys or a sippy cup.

Thule Urban Glide 2 colour versions

One more thing I really like about Thule Urban Glide 2 is the variety of colour versions available for this stroller. Anyone can find a suitable option for oneself, whether you prefer stylish black strollers, colourful models or neutral colours.

So far, you can find this stroller in six colour versions which have not only different colours of fabric, but also different colours of frame.

There are three strollers with black frame which are Black on Black, Cypress Green and Grey Melange. The first one is totally black whereas Cypress Green has dark olive green canopy, back part of the backrest and foot rest. In grey melange, these parts are made of grey material.

The models with white frame are Mars, Majolica Blue and Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow has grey parts, however, they do not have a melange effect like it is in the case of Grey Melange. Majolica Blue has the same parts in dark blue colour whereas Mars has red elements.

As you can see, the choice of colour options is really impressive.

Accessories for Thule Urban Glide 2

Thule is well-known not only for the highest quality of its strollers but also for a variety of accessories compatible with these strollers. The large choice of options will let you create your own customised stroller.

More seating options

As you have already learnt, Thule Urban Glide 2 provides babies with three seating options. While the major seat is a part of the stroller itself, you can also purchase a car seat adapter compatible with the infant car seat you are using or a bassinet which can be attached to the strollers frame instead of its seat.

More protection

As an additional safety element, you can get Thule Bumper Bar, which will also make the use of the stroller more convenient for your child.

In addition to it, two types of covers are available for this stroller which are a rain cover and a mesh cover. Consider the places you are going to visit with your baby and you will understand whether a mesh cover is needed, albeit, a rain cover is an absolute must for every parent unless you live in a desert.

At the same time, if your place of residence is featured with rather cold winters, you can get Thule Footmuff Sport which will make your baby feel cosy and warm.

Additional storage options

Purchasing a bottle holder for oneself can be a great idea since an active time outside can easily make you thirsty no matter whether it is summer or winter. Thule Bottle Cage will let you keep your water within reach.

You can also get Thule Organizer Sport which has a bottle holder as well. Apart from it, this tray has a pocket for small items such as keys or phone which can be easily covered for additional protection.

For your baby, you can get Thule Snack Tray which has a cup holder and extra place for snacks.

Thule Urban Glide 2 – pros and cons

To be honest, Thule Urban Glide 2 is one of the strollers which hardly have any downfalls. Of course it doesn’t mean it is ideal, however, some of the things you might dislike about it such as bulkiness are just a result of the fact this stroller is a jogger, so, being bulky for such a model is just unavoidable.

I am going to provide you with some summary of the positive a negative sides of this stroller so as you will be able to decide for yourself whether you need this product or not.

Pros:

  • convertible into a travel system as well as into a pram after attaching a bassinet which doesn’t require removing in case you want to fold the stroller;
  • excellent quality of the wheels and suspension making this stroller really suitable for absolutely different type of surfaces;
  • infinite recline of the seat’s backrest including an almost flat position;
  • an extremely large canopy;
  • two type of brakes including a parking brake and a handbrake;
  • adjustable handlebar;
  • large storage space with cover protection;
  • stylish colour versions;
  • a very durable construction.

Cons:

  • a seat might be too narrow for some children;
  • a parking brake is not easy to operate in flip flops;
  • the stroller is pretty expensive.

Thule Urban Glide 2 – my conclusions

If you have gone through my entire review, you have definitely noticed that Thule Urban Glide 2 offers a lot of features which are not available in other jogging strollers. Certainly, this model is expensive and not everyone can afford it, yet, it can be a good investment since you will not need any additional strollers or prams while you will be able to travel with this stroller wherever you want an enjoy all of its advantages.

For instance, as for me, the fact this stroller has a handbrake apart from a parking brake means a lot. Actually, no matter how great other models of joggers are, a parking brake alone is not enough for this type of a product. Any time you will be running down the hill, you will need a brake within the reach of your hand since it will not be simple to use a parking brake. Unfortunately, it is a real problem to find a jogging stroller with this type of a brake. That is why I am so glad Thule Urban Glide 2 has one.

Undeniably, an adjustable handlebar, a spacious storage basket with a cover and an extra large canopy are only some of the advantages of Thule Urban Glide 2. The mere fact this stroller can really deal with any type of a surface is a reason to purchase this stroller.

What I really recommend you to consider before purchasing this stroller is how big your child is. If you are going to buy a jogger as an additional stroller which will be used with an elder kid, make sure the seat is not too small for him or her as it has been reported by other parents. If it is not the case, Thule Urban Glide 2 can turn out to be the best possible jogger for you and your child!
